Job Title Mechatronics Engineer
Department  Mechatronics Division

MISSION

Design, develop, integrate, and validate electronic and mechatronic systems for the company's robotic platforms.

The primary focus of this role is the design and development of electronic systems, including:

  • Circuit design
  • Electronic boards
  • Embedded systems
  • Sensors
  • Motor control
  • Power systems

The role also requires a good understanding of mechanical systems to ensure the successful integration of electronic components into complete robotic systems.

The engineer will contribute to the entire product development lifecycle, from concept and prototyping to validation, industrialization, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Electrical and Electronic Design & Development

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electronic systems and subsystems for robotic platforms.
  • Design digital, analog, and mixed signal circuits, including sensor interfaces, motor control, communication, and power supply circuits.
  • Define specifications and independently design electronic boards integrating microcontrollers and other electronic components.
  • Select appropriate components based on technical requirements, performance, reliability, availability, and cost, and analyze component datasheets.
  • Design robust electronic architectures considering EMC, electrical noise, signal integrity, grounding, shielding, and ESD protection.
  • Develop and validate power distribution and power management systems.
  • Develop and program electronic boards and associated embedded functions.

2. Embedded Systems and Control

Responsibilities

  • Develop and debug embedded functions running on microcontrollers and electronic boards.
  • Implement and validate interfaces between sensors, actuators, electronic boards, and software systems.
  • Support the development and tuning of motor and actuator control systems.
  • Work with firmware and software engineers to define interfaces and troubleshoot hardware and software issues.

3. Electronic System Integration & Validation

Responsibilities

  • Integrate electronic components, sensors, actuators, and wiring into robotic systems.
  • Perform functional testing, debugging, and validation of prototypes and complete systems.
  • Use laboratory equipment such as:
    ○ Oscilloscopes
    ○ Multimeters
    ○ Logic analyzers
    ○ Power supplies
    ○ Spectrum analyzers
  • Conduct reliability, endurance, and environmental tests, including:
     ○ Vibration
    ○ Temperature
    ○ EMC
    ○ IP protection testing
  • Diagnose technical issues and identify root causes across electrical, electronic, mechanical, and software systems.

4. Mechanical Integration and Mechatronic Design

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical parts and assemblies when required to support electronic system integration.
  • Use 3D CAD tools to design:
    ○ Brackets
    ○ Enclosures
    ○ Mounts
    ○ Other mechanical components
  • Consider mechanical constraints such as:
    ○ Space
    ○ Vibration
    ○ Thermal management
    ○ Protection
    ○ Accessibility
  • Understand mechanical assemblies and robotic mechanisms to ensure correct integration of electrical and electronic components.
  • Support the design and sizing of motors, actuators, transmissions, and associated control systems in collaboration with other engineers.

5. System Architecture and Integration

Responsibilities

  • Define system architecture and interfaces between electrical, electronic, mechanical, embedded, and software components.
  • Translate system requirements into technical specifications for electronic and mechatronic subsystems.
  • Participate in design reviews and technology selection.
  • Ensure that electrical and electronic systems meet functional, safety, reliability, and performance requirements.

6. Industrialization & Production

Responsibilities

  • Participate in product industrialization from prototype development to mass production.
  • Support the transition of electronic and mechatronic designs into production.
  • Prepare assembly, testing, inspection, and quality control procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors for the manufacturing of electronic, electrical, and mechanical components.
  • Manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) and support component selection and sourcing.
  • Support production teams in troubleshooting electronic and mechatronic issues.

7. Support & Continuous Improvement

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to production, maintenance, and field teams.
  • Analyze field feedback, failures, and maintenance data to identify areas for improvement.

    ○ Manufacturability
    ○ Cost efficiency
  • Maintain technical documentation, schematics, specifications, and test procedures.

8. Cross Functional Collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with mechanical, electronics, firmware, software, production, and maintenance teams.
  • Collaborate with other departments throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and technology selection.
  • Monitor new technologies and industry trends in:
    ○ Electronics
    ○ Embedded systems
    ○ Electrical engineering
    ○ Robotics
CANDIDATE PROFILE

 Education

Degree or equivalent education in:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronics Engineering
  • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Related technical field

Experience

Recent graduates and candidates with up to approximately 3 years of professional experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their fundamental technical knowledge, motivation, and potential for development.  

Practical experience in several of the following areas is preferred:

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Strong knowledge of analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit design.
  • Ability to independently design electronic boards integrating microcontrollers and electronic components.
  • Good understanding of electrical and electronic components, with the ability to interpret datasheets and select appropriate components.
  • Experience with electronic system debugging and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, power supplies, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Knowledge of EMC, electrical noise mitigation, signal integrity, grounding, shielding, and ESD protection best practices.
  • Ability to work with embedded systems and understand the interaction between hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Ability to work on multidisciplinary robotic systems combining electronics, electrical systems, mechanics, and software.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience using PCB CAD software for schematic and printed circuit board design.
  • Experience with PCB layout and basic hardware design for manufacturing considerations.
  • Basic knowledge of firmware or embedded software development.
  • Experience with microcontrollers and communication protocols.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical design and 3D CAD software.
  • Background in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or mechatronics engineering.
  • Experience with robotics or autonomous systems.
LANGUAGES
  • Business level English, both written and spoken, is required.
  • Japanese proficiency from JLPT N4 to JLPT N2 is preferred but not mandatory.

Working Hours

9:00~18:00
*We utilize a staggered work hour system (you can adjust your 8-hour workday, with arrival times between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM, and departure times between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM)
